As a community woodland we depend on local people getting involved. We’re looking for people from all the nearby towns and villages, Laughton, Lewes, Ringmer, Uckfield, East Hoathly, Eastbourne, Chiddingly, Hailsham – and as far afield as the city of Brighton.
Community can be geographical, but for us it also means shared interests such as wildlife, education in nature, health and well-being. We want to work with nature to improve physical and mental health, discover our archaeology and history, learn new skills – like bushcraft and wood working. Our community also includes dog walkers and horse riders who love this place.
So far we’ve had some special one-off events, like bluebell walks and storytelling in the woods, but we’ve also hosted courses that introduce people to learning about – and the benefits of being in – this beautiful woodland.
We are creating opportunities for volunteers to get more regularly involved in the management of the woods. This will include light work using bowsaws, loppers and axes to open up space along byways and tracks. For more information email us or contact us via our Facebook page.
By early 2018 there will be opportunities to join the management committee of our CBS. If you have specialist skills and experience in finance and legal matters we’d particularly like to hear from you.
